Things are picking up once again with the releases with some nice games coming out this week. Kart racers are usually a sign of a company not knowing what to do with a franchise anymore so I rarely pay attention to them. With the exception of the granddaddy of them all, Mario Kart, they are usually sub-par. If they aren’t, then you usually don’t care about the franchise anymore. I never played a Crash Bandicoot after Crash Team Racing came out, I haven’t played a Bomberman since they had one (except the XBLA version which wasn’t really “new”), etc. This is not one particular franchise but SEGA as a whole, so should I be worried about the end of the company?
There may be a lot of you out there that are like “Sega Master System? Sonic the Hedgehog? Don’t you mean the Sega Genesis?” Nope, I do not. While not very popular here in the US, Sega had a system out before the Genesis called the Sega Master System that was the 8-bit competition to the NES system and Sega supported it well into the Genesis’ life-cycle so they, of course, made Sonic for the Master System as well. The reason I am reviewing the game is because many people may not realize that instead of a dumbed down port of the Genesis game, it is actually a whole new game and therefore worth a look for platform game fans.
