PS3 Firmware 3.41 Released

Just now added to the PS3 was Firmware 3.41 which adds “Recommendations” to the Playstation Store. It will base these on what other people are buying combined with ratings. Kudos to Sony for what seems to be a reaction to the Destination Arcade. I tried checking it out for myself and it seems that it has not quite been implemented yet, maybe in time for the Tuesday update? Word is that a PSP firmware is due as well with more security stuff.

SingStar Has Been Updated to Version 4.4

SingStar Viewer SingStar doesn’t seem to get a lot of love on other sites so I figured I’d post a little info that may help some people out.  SingStar has finally received the 4.4 update that was supposed to be released back in June.  It adds Online Battles to play online against friends, Vibrato detection, and the best feature (in my opinion) is the addition of creating SingStar Remote playlists via the PSP.  The Community updates are listed after the break.

Fat Princess 2.0 Patch Released Along with New DLC [UPDATED]

FatPrincesslogo_thumb The new 2.0 patch/update as well as the latest DLC is out for Fat Princess that adds local multiplayer and some extra classes like Ninjas and Pirates.  It is 161 MB and I am currently downloading it to see what it is like.  Hopefully this doesn’t turn out like Smash Cars and the multiplayer isn’t just for the DLC owners.  Will post again after some time spent with it.

UPDATE:  The local multiplayer is there, but you wouldn’t know it.  You have to start an online game like any other (do not do “play with friends”) and then the 3 other players can join by pressing start.  Sadly, if you do not have the DLC expect LOTS of messages telling you to buy it.  VERY annoying.

PSN Review: Smash Cars

Smash Cars cover Smash Cars is a game on Sony’s PSN downloadable game service that brings some fun arcade style racing in the form of RC Cars that seems to borrow quite a bit from Nintendo’s ExciteTruck. In the case of this game though, that’s not a bad thing.

Updated Review: Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)

Batman Arkham Asylum cover I have updated my review for Batman Arkham Asylum to reflect a few things that have changed since I originally posted the review.  This includes the fact that there was free DLC released and the PC version has come out and what makes it different (mostly PhysX support).  Click here to read the review.

PSA: Do Not Use Your PS3 [UPDATE 3-4-10]

For those that don’t know, there is currently a problem with the PS3 using PSN due to a bug in the time settings.  This means that people can have games crash/not run and can lose trophy data.  Sony is aware of the issue and working on a fix.  I’m sure you would have already known that before coming to my little blog, but figured I’d post anyway since it’s a big deal.  Sony is advising uses of non-Slim PS3s to not use their systems at all until the fix is out. [UPDATE] It appears that all is fine now.  This only affected non-Slim models because it uses a faulty ARC chip (same as in the Zune) that gets confused with leap years… at least that’s what Sony is saying which is odd since it’s not a leap year this year.  Anyway, things are fine… for now.

Demo Impressions – Xbox 360 and PS3 Review: Fairytale Fights

Fairytale Fights I know that the full game of Fairytale Fights is out, but the demo is a perfect example on how NOT to make a demo.  They pretty much knew they had a crap game so made an even crappier demo that told people, “Do not buy our game.”

Forgotten Friday – PS2 Review: Frequency

Frequency cover While many of you may not have heard of the game being reviewed this week, you have most definitely heard of the developers.  Harmonix are the creators of Guitar Hero and now work on the successful Rock Band franchise, but their start in video games was a little known (at least as far as sales are concerned) PS2 game called Frequency.

PS3 Review: NetFlix disc

Netflix-Logo The NetFlix Instant player has been available for over a year now on Xbox 360 and has been integrated into Windows Media Center since May.  It is well known that NetFlix wants to be on as many devices as possible, and who can blame them.  The latest available is the Playstation 3 which unfortunately has to be a disc put into the system due to the agreement with Microsoft.  How does it stack up to the others?
