Response to E-Mails/IMs About Rhythm Games

I’ve been getting some e-mails and IMs about music games, especially way back when I did my review for Guitar Hero: Van Halen, about which series I prefer and which instruments.  Another common question is the best price to get for them.  With Rock Band 3and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock coming soon that means new instruments coming out and the older ones getting cheaper.  I will say this, retail stores seem to be major rip-offs for the most part so check eBay or Amazon for some good deals on new and used.  I have provided some links below.  My instrument preference?  I prefer the Guitar Hero guitars and the Rock Band drums (as long as there are the cymbols added on), although I do like having the Guitar Hero drums for GH games and they are growing on me.  Also below is a nice deal on the Band Hero Super Bundle ($100 for the game, mic, guitar, and drums.  Can’t be beat and the songs can be exported into GH5).  To those that contacted me, was this enough info or would you like something more in depth?

Wii Review: Prince of Persia Rival Swords

Prince of Persia Rival Swords cover If you’ve read my Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie review you know that I am a huge fan of the Prince of Persia game series.  This game is a slightly different version of Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones which is the third game in the Sands of Time Trilogy (which now has a 4th part, but well, whatever).  How did this game stack up to a big fan?

Wii Review: No More Heroes 2

No More Heroes 2 cover If you read my review for No More Heroes you would know that it was a game that I loved on a system with very little “core” games.  I said at the end that I couldn’t wait for the sequel.  Here is it, and was I disappointed?

New Releases for the Week of March 15th, 2010

If you click on Upcoming Releases you will see I have updated it to include this week.  It is a huge week this week with releases such as the Dragon Age: Origins expansion, Resonance of Fate, Fragile Dreams on Wii, and arguably the biggest release this week: God of War 3 on PS3.  I am running a bit behind in my games so I may not play any soon but I am looking forward to all of those.  Time to get back to playing so I can catch up.

Retro Thursday – Sega Master System VC Review: Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog SMS Cover There may be a lot of you out there that are like “Sega Master System? Sonic the Hedgehog?  Don’t you mean the Sega Genesis?”  Nope, I do not.  While not very popular here in the US, Sega had a system out before the Genesis called the Sega Master System that was the 8-bit competition to the NES system and Sega supported it well into the Genesis’ life-cycle so they, of course, made Sonic for the Master System as well.  The reason I am reviewing the game is because many people may not realize that instead of a dumbed down port of the Genesis game, it is actually a whole new game and therefore worth a look for platform game fans.

Upcoming Releases for the Week of January 18th

A new year with some new releases… Just not too many this week.  The coming weeks will be quite busy with releases, but this week sees Dark Void, Pinball Hall of Fame: The Gottlieb Collection for Wii and the PS2 port of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.  When I have to put a couple of budget PC releases of game shows just to fill the widget you know you have a slow week.  The demo for Dark Void is available to download now, but I have yet to try it.

Retro Thursday – XBLA/PSN/VC/Genesis Review: Gunstar Heroes

Gunstar Heroes cover Today’s review title is one of the longest just because of the amount of consoles it is available for.  Gunstar Heroes is a classic side scroller run and gun shooter along the lines of Contra.  It was Treasure’s first game and the company was formed by former Konami employees that worked on Contra so it all makes sense.  If you enjoy classic shooters like that especially playing 2 player co-op you owe it to yourself to get this game, but which version?

Upcoming Releases for Week of November 2nd

The Upcoming Releases page has been updated again after a few weeks off.  This week sees the release of both Band Hero and LEGO Rock Band which are the more “family friendly” versions of the respective franchises.  Since LEGO Rock Band has “The Final Countdown” by Europe it automatically wins in my mind.  If music games aren’t your thing (or you don’t want to buy ANOTHER one after 10 have come out this year alone) there is also Dragon Age: Origins which looks pretty sweet for fans of Baldurs Gate, the Ultimate Sith Edition of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for those looking for new content that is released as a full game instead of DLC, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010, and Rabbids Go Home for Wii which is more of an adventure game than the mini-game collections they have been known for until now.  There are others as well so take a look at the page.
