I have updated my review for Batman Arkham Asylum to reflect a few things that have changed since I originally posted the review. This includes the fact that there was free DLC released and the PC version has come out and what makes it different (mostly PhysX support). Click here to read the review.

A new year with some new releases… Just not too many this week. The coming weeks will be quite busy with releases, but this week sees Dark Void, Pinball Hall of Fame: The Gottlieb Collection for Wii and the PS2 port of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. When I have to put a couple of budget PC releases of game shows just to fill the widget you know you have a slow week. The demo for Dark Void is available to download now, but I have yet to try it.
The Upcoming Releases page has been updated again after a few weeks off. This week sees the release of both Band Hero and LEGO Rock Band which are the more “family friendly” versions of the respective franchises. Since LEGO Rock Band has “The Final Countdown” by Europe it automatically wins in my mind. If music games aren’t your thing (or you don’t want to buy ANOTHER one after 10 have come out this year alone) there is also Dragon Age: Origins which looks pretty sweet for fans of Baldurs Gate, the Ultimate Sith Edition of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for those looking for new content that is released as a full game instead of DLC, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010, and Rabbids Go Home for Wii which is more of an adventure game than the mini-game collections they have been known for until now. There are others as well so take a look at the page.
Left 4 Dead 2 was announced leaving owners of the original pissed that there were no add-ons for the original. They felt that there should be continued support for the original game or that Left 4 Dead 2 be an expansion for the original. A boycott for 2 was announced. Shortly after that Crash Course, DLC for the original Left 4 Dead, was announced. So, is this a case of fans jumping the gun too soon, or a quick fix by developers to make people happy?
Probably the most popular genre at this point, at least in terms of number of games being released, is the “Tower Defense” genre. With so many coming out and being so popular, and with them being quick to pick up and play, it was only a matter of time before Pop Cap Games decided to get in on it. Enter Plants vs. Zombies for the PC. Instead of towers, you plant different plants in a garden to strategically place them to ward off zombies from entering your house. Is this twist enough to keep you playing?
The Secret of Monkey Island… just hearing the name should be joy to you if you grew up playing so-called “graphic adventures” (aka point and click) on your PC growing up. If you hated it then, you will hate it now, but if you don’t know what I’m talking about, read on.
I updated the Upcoming Releases page so it should have the majority of the new releases for this week in games, plus a few in the future that people are looking forward to. Check it out.
[UPDATED 3-1-10]Well, here we have it, a comic book game that is good…. REALLY good. I’m sure you’ve heard all the positive hype and reviews for Batman: Arkham Asylum already. Having just finished it myself, I can agree that this game deserves all the praise it’s getting, and lives up to all the hype. Read on to find out why.
I have updated the Upcoming Releases page to reflect the games coming out this week. You can get there by clicking here or clicking where it says Upcoming Releases at the top of the page. This week sees the release of Guitar Hero 5 among others like SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny for PSP
and Section 8
. Just browse through them to see what’s coming out, and anything ordered through there will go towards helping the site. Enjoy.
